What signs mean I need a filling?
A hole or decay, sensitivity to sweet or hot and cold, dark spots or rough edges, or food repeatedly catching on the same tooth — come in for a check. The sooner you fill it, the more tooth you keep.
Does a filling hurt? How many visits?
Shallow decay is often filled painlessly; deeper cases may use anaesthetic. It is usually completed in a single visit per tooth and is ready to use almost straight away.
What if the decay is too deep to fill?
If decay reaches the pulp, root canal treatment may be needed first, then the tooth is restored with a filling or crown. If it has spread too far to save, extraction may be needed. The dentist assesses and explains before starting.
